Book #4: The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook

As I said in my last post I have been pretty busy, but over the past week I have been and have had some time to read more than I would have if I were working. I have been reading this book since the beginning of the year and should been done with it, so finally I am working on this post.







Now onto my review...

When I first started reading this book it was because I wanted to read it before I saw the movie, Social Network. because it had just come out in the movie theaters and I usually find a way to read the book of a movie before I see it in theaters (mainly because it's an unwritten rule of mine). As I started reading this book I couldn't believe how much they made Mark Zuckerberg look like such a scum bag, while he was in college at Harvard University. The image changes as the book goes, the author paints him as a hard working college entrepreneur trying to make some thing that could put him on the map on campus.

As the author states in the beginning of the book, there are spots where he is writing as if he was imagining what was going on. This was due to a lack of cooperation by all parties mentioned in the book, but we know who really didn't want to cooperate with this book and the movie. However, he does give you a good look into the life of Mark Zuckerburg and those with whom he worked with while in the process of developing thefacebook.com (the original Facebook), and finally arriving at the product we know today as Facebook.com.

While reading the this book, one can understand that story behind Facebook and how business can corrupt friendships, no matter how long they have existed. No matter how well you think you know someone you never really know how they may act while they are not around you and what they may think about you. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the story that inspired the movie about Facebook, Social Network.

Well I have been pretty busy, and I am currently reading a book that I am working hard to finish so I can blog about it. I am really enjoying it, and once I finish it I will blog about it. Book #3: A Christmas Carol

Well for a long time a I have wanted to Read Charles Dickens' book "A Christmas Carol." I have seen the movie a number of times, whether it's Disney's version (with Jim Carrey), The Muppet version, or Mickey's version. I have liked every version of the movie I have seen and much like other moves that have been inspired by books, I wanted to see if it differed from the book and by how much.

So here is me review of this timeless book...

First of all, the movies are practically spot on in regards to the book. They follow the book exactly and don't differ from it at all. Well maybe in terms of the story line, but maybe in the words used by the narrator (when one was used) or in the worked used by the characters.

I thought that the book moved quite quickly and really enjoyed reading this book in the time leading up to Christmas (my goal was to read it before opening presents on Christmas day, which I was able to do).

Reading this book really got me in the Christmas spirit, even though I didn't finish until Christmas day. The way that Mr. Dickens wrote this book was just amazing and really made you feel as if you were a spirit following Mr. Scrooge and his "visitors" around as they showed Mr. Scrooge his past, present and future. This book really makes one think about their life and what they have done for those who are less fortunate that themselves. I really encourage anyone to read it.

Book #2: Before My Heart Stops

It has been some time since my last post, that is due to a couple of reasons. First I have been extremely busy with work and school, and second I have been waiting for this book to come out. You see I kind of have a personal connection to the author of the book, I grew up in the same neighbor as he did, was friends with his younger brother (since the author is considerably older than I), his grandparents have known me since I was just a new born. So one could say that I have some personal interest in this book.

On to the book and my review...

Before My Heart Stops by Paul Cardall...

Paul Cardall writes about his health problem that has been with him ever since he was born, he was born with a heart disease called: congenital heart disease. He has been fighting for his life since birth.

This book talks about the period of time he found out he would have to have a heart transplant and all the challenges that he faced during his time leading up the event that caused him to write this wonderful book. Never before have I read such a powerful and inspirational book in my life (outside the scriptures). While reading this book I was touched by the spirit that Paul brought to this book and by the personal struggle that he went through during this period of his life. This book has made it so that anyone who reads it feels that they can go through any challenge, trial, tribulation that is place before them; as long as they have faith in God, and his plan for them.

Book #1: The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

For some time now I have been a Dan Brown fan. The first book I read by him was 'Da Vinci Code', while I was in England and Paris. It was great because I read the part where he describes the scene in the Louvre the night before I went to see the Louvre. That book took me sometime to read, but the next book 'Angles and Demons' I read quite quickly. That also became the case with this book, 'The Lost Symbol'. I got this book on my way to see my parents, just before Christmas. I started it on my way back from their house two days before Christmas and I just finished it this past Sunday.

The following is my review of 'The Lost Symbol'.

As the book opens everyone's favorite fictional Harvard professor, Robert Langdon, is summoned to the US capitol building in Washington D.C. by his longtime and beloved friend Peter Solomon, who is one of the highest ranking members of the Masons. Once he arrives at the meeting spot everything goes wrong for Professor Langdon. He gets thrust into a world he has a hard time grasping even exists - the world of the Masonic Pyramid and the Ancient Mysteries of the Masons. Everything that Langdon encounters on this night tells him that they do in fact exist, but his mind keeps tells him that they can't. With that said, Langdon discovers that he has to grasp the fact that they "MIGHT" exist because if he doesn't, the life of his beloved friend Peter will end.

As Professor Langdon begins to solve the puzzle and follow the path that has been placed before him, he encounters the same sort of problems that presented themselves in his past experiences with the ancient organization in 'The Da Vicnci Code' and 'Angles and Demons'. Run-ins with law enforcement, perceived betrayal, and mistrust of all those with whom he interacts - besides those he has known for some time, like the sister of his friend Kathrine Solomon. As the story unfolds Katherine throws herself into solving the Masonic Pyramid to find the Ancient Mysteries.

This book is by far one of my all time favorite books, I recommend this to anyone who enjoys fast reading books with tons of suspense. For all those who were worried about what Dan Brown would say about the LDS church's involvement with the Masons and worried that he might say about the church, there was nothing "damaging" said. I was one of those who read it first of all to see what he would say about the church, but then quickly got sucked into the great storyline of this wonderful and masterfully written book.

Don't miss out on this book. These suspenseful pages were easy to turn and will be for you!

Why this blog?

I have tried to do a blog before and after some time I stopped blogging because I really had nothing to blog about. Now that I am almost done with school, and have more time to read I decided during this winter break that I will do a book review about each book that I read - even if the book is an older book. I hope that as you read this blog that you will have the desire to read the book that I have just posted a review about and decided to read a book that you would have not read otherwise. Please feel free to post any comments about any of the books that I review. Also I am open to any book suggestions or advice that you would like to give about the book reviews I do.
